What is Kanna?
We here at Krysalis believe that kanna is your newest (to the markets here but been around for centuries!) and best emotional support; an all natural substance that helps take the edge off, improve focus and provide you with a variety of other benefits (better sleep anyone?) without the feeling of being high or other side effects that can present themselves when using other plant substances.
Kanna, also known by its scientific name Sceletium tortuosum, is a succulent plant native to South Africa. It has a long history of traditional use by indigenous cultures, such as the San and Khoikhoi people, who have utilized it for its mood-enhancing and calming properties.
Kanna contains alkaloids such as mesembrine, mesembrenone, and tortuosamine, which are responsible for its psychoactive effects. Some of the potential benefits and uses of kanna include:
- Mood Enhancement: Kanna is commonly used to improve mood and alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety. It may act as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, helping to increase serotonin levels in the brain, which are associated with feelings of happiness and well-being.
- Stress Reduction: The plant is known for its anxiolytic properties, which means it can help reduce stress and promote relaxation without causing sedation.
- Cognitive Enhancement: Some users report enhanced cognitive abilities, such as improved focus and mental clarity, while using kanna.
- Appetite Suppression: Kanna may have appetite-suppressing effects, which could be beneficial for those trying to manage their weight.
- Pain Relief: Traditional use of kanna suggests that it may have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, providing relief from mild pain and discomfort.
- Social Interaction: Users often mention increased sociability and a greater sense of empathy while taking kanna.
-
Smoking Cessation: Some anecdotal evidence suggests that kKanna may help reduce tobacco and nicotine cravings, aiding in smoking cessation efforts.
Our favorite benefit here at Krysalis is that kanna is an absolute powerhouse in quieting a busy mind - it’s why it’s so good for calming and focusing. So many of us struggle with the constant chatter in our heads which causes us so much stress and anxiety - kanna is a tremendous help for this!
It's important to note that while many people find kKanna beneficial, its effects can vary from person to person, and not everyone may experience the same benefits. It’s important to start with our recommended two pumps and then either scale back or increase as needed. (Psst - one pump is great in coffee also).
